Shop local!
Why shop Indie?
When you shop at an independently owned business, your entire community benefits:The Economy
- Spend $100 at a local and $68 of that stays in your community. Spend the same $100 at a national chain, and your community only sees $43.
- Local businesses create higher-paying jobs for our neighbors.
- More of your taxes are reinvested in your community--where they belong.
- Buying local means less packaging, less transportation, and a smaller carbon footprint.
- Shopping in a local business district means less infrastructure, less maintenance, and more money to beautify your community.
- Local retailers are your friends and neighbors—support them and they’ll support you.
- Local businesses donate to charities at more than twice the rate of national chains.
- More independents means more choice, more diversity, and a truly unique community.

[prustrations] If We Just Have The Sense of a Goose
____________Forwarded Message____________
The
next time
you see Geese
heading South for
the Winter, flying along
in V formation, you might
consider what science has discovered
as to why they fly that way:
As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an
uplift for the bird immediately following. By
flying in V formation the whole flock adds at least
71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
People who share a common direction and sense of community
can get where they are going more quickly and easily
because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.
When
a goose falls
out of formation,
it suddenly feels the drag
and resistance of trying to go it alone
and quickly gets back into formation to take
advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.
If we have as much sense as a goose,
we will stay in formation
with those who are headed the same way we are.
When
the Head Goose
gets tired, it rotates back
in the wing and another goose flies point.
It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs
with people or with geese flying South.
Geese
honk from behind to encourage
those up front to keep up their speed.
What do we say when we honk from behind?
Finally,
and this is important,
when a goose gets sick,
or is wounded by gunshots
and falls out of formation,
two other geese fall out with that goose
and follow it down to lend help and protection.
They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly,
or until it dies.
Only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation
to catch up with their group.
IF WE JUST HAVE THE SENSE OF A GOOSE,
WE WILL STAND BY EACH OTHER
LIKE THEM.

totoo nga, kung sana lang ..."If We Just Have The Sense of a Goose"

[did you know?] go veggie now!
I've said this before but... I'll still say it again.
The livestock industry produces 40% [1] more global heating emissions than cars, trucks, trains, planes, and ships combined; one pound of beef requires over 10,000 [2] litres of water to produce; and 80% [3] of Amazon deforestation is for cattle ranching.
Not necessarily to go complete vegetarian, but you are helping the environment a great big deal if you eat lower on the food chain, to choose food that pollutes less wherever possible, and support people who make those choices. What more if most if not all of us are going veggie.
Think about it. And tell the world.

[did you know?] evil, lies, and self improvement
well this is not a did-you-know fact. but i can't post it as a "quote me" because it's not from me. and i don't wanna start a new thread right now. so what the heck, did you know that the following quotes come from the following people?
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing" - attributed to Edmund Burke, British philosopher. From Wikipedia: This quotation, although often attributed to Burke does not occur in his works or recorded speeches. It first appeared in the 14th edition of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (1968), which incorrectly sourced it to a letter that did not in fact contain the quote.
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." - popularized by Mark Twain. "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is part of a phrase attributed to Benjamin Disraeli and popularised in the United States by Mark Twain as above. The statement refers to the persuasive power of numbers, the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments, and the tendency of people to disparage statistics that do not support their positions.
"If you can't measure it, you can't improve it." - William Thomson, a.k.a. 1st Baron Kelvin, or Lord Kelvin, British scientist, engineer, and inventor, from whom the Kelvin scale of (absolute) temperature originated from. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Thomson,_1st_Baron_Kelvin
